Disability Pensioners "Worse Off" Under Welfare Reforms

Research by the National Centre for Economic and Social Modelling has found people with disabilities will be up to $122 a week worse off under the Federal Government's welfare to work changes. The changes, which move those deemed "capable" of working 15 or more hours a week from the disability pension to the Newstart Allowance. Marie Coleman from the Foundation for Australian Women says that with the reduced allowance and added tax burden, the changes will create a poverty trap. Read more »
